Challenges in internationalization of R&D teams: Impact of foreign technocrats in top management teams on firm innovations

This study explores two reasons for why and when firm innovation may not benefit from the presence of foreign technocrats in top management teams, who represent a ‘minority-in- minority’ status due to their membership minority sub-groups (foreigners technology experts). First, face greater social barriers exert human capital because minority-in-minority brings about twice as much pressure majority (the double jeopardy hypothesis). Second, similarity resulting overlap executive groups render sub-group peers apprehensive loss self-identity, thus leading horizontal hostility narcissism minor difference theory). Using 1635 Chinese manufacturing firms compare joint effects similar CEOs, we find that is more likely play positive role these are heterogeneous.
